Arctic
inspiration for additional ambient score
Love the way you created this game and wanted to share only a few small observations regarding sound design/music. Obviously nothing I say here would in any way compete/interfere with Joff Winks’ excellent soundtrack, this would only be for possible additional, more ambient scores to enhance the sound design throughout the game. I’d imagine the most minimal cues that tie in seamlessly with the sounds of nature and would simplify the timing of various dramatic cues.
The focus would be less on chord structure and melody but more on sound design, mimicking the various sounds of snow being compressed by footsteps, rustling sounds being moved through branches and dead leaves, gusts of wind howling around the trees and cabin etc. The intent would be for this type of music to not feel like it’s just playing as background score, but tie in with the emotional experience of the gameplay.
I’ve put together a few playlists below – you could skip of course – each track is a video chapter – to get an idea of instrumentation and styles I’m familiar with as a composer, even if the tracks would be more ambient and subtle in nature.
A little about me – my name’s Parichayaka, classical musical education in Austria, moved to NY started scoring short films around 2010 and found a niche in scoring award shows with focus on environmental and biodiversity projects and have since worked with multiple grammy-award directors on a variety of immersive video projects with original music and sound design.
Here you can read a little bit more about me in case you’re interested, and this is a link to playlists with some of my work from the last few years. I’ve been brought in to a few projects in the past, supplement existing scores without stepping on anyone’s toes and with a release date in less than a year, I imagine you’d only have a need for supplemental tracks to add a subtle layer of grittiness, realism and intensity.
Calm acoustic scores with analog synths and string instruments that blend with the visuals are what I’ve been focused on after many years of soundtracks for films and high end award shows.
Again, all this would be for a score complimenting the existing musical score – this little presentation is absolutely not meant to take interfere with the outstanding work that Joff Wink has already done.
Thank you for your time!
